Some thoughts on it below.

Kinja'd!!!

(Still the only picture I have of it)

Low down torque is lacking. More than lacking. Meeeeh.

Rides really well.

Takes nothing to make the front tires squeal in corners.

Sips gas. I mean we used hardly any gas at all.

Tracks straight and true, even at highway speeds.

The stock stereo sounds really good. But the manual said it had a 6 CD changer, but it doesn't.

Bonus points for bench seats and column shifter.

The side mirrors are really small.

It actually seems really well built for an early 2000s American car.

Now, it's not exactly my kind of car, but it's actually not a bad car at all.

Did you check the trunk for the CD changer?

Checked everywhere they said it'd be located, couldn't find it. Guess it's only a 1 disc.

I wouldn't say that. It's a good car, just not my forte.

My dad had a 90's S-Class (one year old). One day he complained that he couldn't play CDs in his car because it wasn't equipped with a player. I grabbed his keys, walked him to the car, opened the trunk, pointed in silence to the CD changer, and walked away.

I shouldn't have done this actually, because the only CD he ever bought was the Tin Cup soundtrack. I had to listen to the song "Double Bogey Blues" every time I rode with him.

At this point, I wouldn't complain about driving a Forte. I bet that thing wouldn't use half a tank of gas to go 60 miles round trip.

Some were behind the liner in the trunk near the wheel... A ton of people never even realized they had one buying it used

Like hidden under the trunk liner? Okay Ford.

We only started to wonder because there's buttons on the radio that say CD 1-6 or something like that. Looked around for like 30 minutes for it.

Yup, a ton were pulled when they went to auction as well and sold on eBay back ten or so years ago so there's a lot of cars out there running around with the wiring but the changers missing.

Literally the only thing I know about that generation of Ford Taurus is that one snowy morning, I woke up to find a black SHO stuck in the bottom of our yard. I wanted to keep it, because I like things like sleepers and small-displacement V8s, but the owner wanted it back. I still say finders-keepers, but whatever.

I bet that has low down torque...

I'd rather have an older one with the Yamaha V6 and a stick.

Could it've been in the dashboard? Our old Freelander had a 6 disc system whereby you inserted all six discs into the CD player in the dashboard instead of putting them into a separate changer elsewhere in the car.

Tried that, wouldn't let but one CD in.

Who knows, I just found it weird how the radio has a button to switch between 6 CDs but no changer that we could see.

Ah, yes, but according to Wikipedia (which I had to use because I don't know any facts about this car) it may be an automatic, but it's a 3.4 V8 that's co-built/designed by Yamaha and Cosworth. So it may be an even more fun engine. Also, it apparently has 230lbs/ft of torque, which is some.

So what you're saying is that stickshifts and safety belts and bucket seats all have to go?

I'm developing a thing for "regular car" Fords as a DD.

If it's the same automatic that's in the normal ones, I wouldn't touch it at all. It's so slow to react.

I'd take an Impala of the same vintage over it just because of 3800's power advantage. I mean, the 3.0L in the Taurus is great on the highway, but taking off from lights, you'd think you were in the wrong gear or something.

Not that uncommon. The manuals are typically all the same for said model so there will be stuff in there for every option available, whether your car came with it or not. The radio is likely the same for every taurus that year as well. So you have the buttons even if the original buyer didn't opt for the changer. Some buyers would decide to add the changer a year or 2 after purchase. That way all they have to do at the dealer is plug it in, instead of swapping the head unit AND adding a changer.

For a few years I drove a 1995 Taurus that my brother now drives, personally I never had an issue with low-end torque, but it doesn't exactly pull like a team of oxen either. But most all your other points I agree with, it's a great car to commute with.

Does that year still have the part where the middle of the front bench flips forward to give a couple cubby holes and cup holders? It is so handy to have those.

It does still have that. It's really useful. She always hides her bag in that cubby hole.
